Installfest - Needs You! |
|
Submitted by BlakJak on 28 Jul 2004 - 10:27pm |

FURTHER UPDATE: 22 October 2004 -
INSTALLFEST CONFIRMED FOR 31 OCTOBER 2004, AUT CONFERENCE ROOMS, AUCKLAND CBD
NZLUG in Auckland is planning another Installfest to run in Late
October 2004. Our last couple have been successful and we hope for even
more success again!
We do however, need... volunteers :-) Both in the initial organisation
and on-the-day. For those unfamiliar with the concept of an Installfest
- heres the deal.
- Members of the public bring in their computer systems.
- NZLUG Members will assist you in installing your own Linux system.
This can be dedicated, or co-exist with your existing OS of choice.
- We'll help you get everything working, and answer any questions you
may have.
- Its possible that some of our supporting vendors will also have a
presence. - A great opportunity to get in touch with fellow linux
enthusiasts, swap stories, and tech support!
NZLUG Members are welcome to join our installfest mailing list and
participate in the coordination and discussion around how we get this
thing going - and we will of course need people who can show up on the
day - either to have an installation done, or help us with getting
installations done for others! Above all these events do not succeed
without the participation of the membership.
This will be an all day event. We have a NEED for NZLUG members - you
dont have to be a guru - to help out on the day. So far we have
confirmed the availability of cheap (eg cost) copies of the latest
Distros - with thanks to our good friends at Dick Smith Electronics -, as well as the opportunity to pick up a copy of SuSE 9.1 Professional at a very good price, with thanks to Novell.
We're lining up new deals all the time, so if you want to take advantage and be involved, join in!
LUG Members who'd like to help run the event: email majordomo@ linux {dot} net.nz with 'subscribe installfest' and join our mailing list.
People pondering Linux who'd like to get it installed on the day: Keep an eye out for The Installfest Site which should be live as at End of Business Friday 22nd - use this site to register.
Note this is all FREE.
See you there!
Note: Due to catering contracts and health & safety regulations
there will no longer be a barbeque on-site; apologies to anyone this
inconveniences. |

After Meeting Report - by Mark FosterHaving missed many of
the recent meetings due to other committments it was certainly great to
see such a good turnout on the part of the LUG to this meeting.
Kristi's talk was very interesting, it looks like Novell are going to
become quite a player in Linux circles going forward. (Novell own both
Ximian and SuSE, and have some neat looking projects in the works.)
Thanks to Novell for coming along and presenting to us, and to Asterisk
for a great venue. As promised, there are now Pics online which will explain, among other things, Nick Clifford's Cloak. :) |

Description:
In which Adam enumerates some of the more exotic uses of the linux
routing and networking tools. Policy routing, asymmetric networks, routing
for non-routing purposes, and other uses and abuses of the linux IPv4
stack. All illustrated with real examples of the sort of networking
madness1 that I've been made to do.
1 For example, the two customers who demanded an ipsec tunnel, who both
had the exact same network range, and neither of whom would change. Adam

Xmas and/or New Year Gathering at Wenderholm |
|
Submitted by wishes on 13 Dec 2003 - 11:21am |
Auckland |
We will be having the NZLUG Xmas/New Years gathering at Wenderholm on the 27th of December.
If we arrive at around 11am do a BBQ lunch thing, play some games
(bring a cricket bat anyone?), walk a track or something till whenever
we feel like leaving. The BBQ's are coin operated or you can hire a specific BBQ. At the
moment I'm thinking of taking my own 3 burner and leave the trolly home
(for everyone to use).
http://www.arc.govt.nz/arc/parks/northern-parks/wenderholm.cfm will give you more info on Wenderholm.
When you get there look for the Black Celica
with the number plate 'GEEK' (dont know the lay of the land so will
park somewhere obvious for us to gather).
Everyone on the List is welcome and encouraged to bring their family
and/or friends. There are even camping grounds for those who want to
come from afar (would be great to meet some more LUGers not from
Auckland).
BYO food drinks etc.
If it happens to be pouring down its probably not going to happen...
keep an eye on the NZLUG list on the morning of the 27th for info on
cancelations
in that case.
