Administrative Changes to the Auckland LUG

Linux.net.nz draws your attention to some recent changes to the Auckland LUG admin team, as noted in this post to the LUG on November 5.

We note that Joel van Velden is stepping down for personal reasons and wish to thank him for all his efforts on our behalf over the past years.
We also welcome Martin Kealey and Nevyn Hira to the Admin team as our Auckland Event coordinators going forward.


AuckLUG Meeting - TONIGHT - Thursday 6 november

In lieu of a formal meeting, the Auckland Linux Users Group announce an informal meeting to be held tonight, details as follows:

What:
General meet and greet. A chance for LUG members to meet each other over a pint or two.

Additional Notes:
Given that no under-aged members of AuckLUG put their hands up for attendance, a pub as a venue has been decided.

NEW VENUE: AuckLUG has a new venue for 5th May meeting

We have new venue, University of Auckland.

(Updated) We will be in Room 260-055 "Case Room 3" in the new Business School building.

The best map is (Updated) www.sges.auckland.ac.nz/public/maps/city.pdf. Corner of Grafton Rd and Symonds St is the general area. There is paid parking in the Business School carpark, or general city street parking.

As soon as I get more information i'll post here and on the Mailing List.

We don't have a scheduled talk; Its a social event tonight guys, so we may
even break tradition and get a coffee/beverage-of-choice afterwards.

Come see Vik Oliver give a talk on his open-source rapid prototyping machine that prints 3D objects.
Not a technical talk, so do come along if you've been put off by the technical nature of talks in the past.
Not often do revolutionary tools come around; This is one project that you will want to know more about. Take this opportunity to pick Vik's brain and get started on building your own 3D printer.

"I teach several Engineering courses at the UofA where the software tools used are primarily free/open source. Python, Linux, gcc, Firefox. In my talk I'll give an overview of these courses, both from the perspective of how OSS makes my teaching life easier, better, and how some of the students react to some of the tools."
