Special Meeting of Auckland LUG: Albany Senior High School
Submitted by BlakJak on 8 Mar 2010 - 11:12am Auckland
When:
Tuesday, 16th March, 7:30pm
Where:
Albany Senior High School
536 Albany Highway
Albany
Openstreetmap.org. Parking is available on Level 1, access through Gate 1.

What:
Mark Osborne is doing a presentation on ASHS' I.T. systems - all of which is Linux (except for the student management system) and how this has been a benefit to their learning environment. I've also invited Peter Harrison to come along to talk about a project that's been brewing over at NZOSS (the New Zealand Open Source Society) which is an open source Student Management System.

I think we may even have a bit of a talk from some of the students at ASHS but don't quote me on that. There'll probably be a few attending at the very least.

Also, a bit of a reminder, if you're a little sketchy on firewalls (does DNAT stand for Dynamic NAT or Destination NAT?!?), and want to learn more, then sign up for Glen's tutorials at: http://wiki.linux.net.nz/AuckLUGFirewallTutorial.

First Auckland LUG Meeting for 2010!
Submitted by BlakJak on 1 Mar 2010 - 2:54pm Auckland
From Nevyn:

When: 1st March, 7pm
Where: OSS, Level 1, 162 Grafton Road, Auckland
(The Compass Building, corner of Grafton Rd and Khyber Pass, opposite the Southern Cross Healthcare building). See Openstreetmap.org.
About: General "show and tell" and debug session. Bring in the gear you need help with. Show a bit of that bragging spirit. Tell us about any little projects you're doing.

(Apologies for the delay getting this onto the web).

Auckland LUG End-of-Year Barbeque
Submitted by BlakJak on 1 Dec 2009 - 5:09pm Auckland
This from Nevyn...

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd send out a reminder about the barbeque this weekend.

I've been thinking about what to bring along and any preparation I should do before hand. Things like making up some chick pea patties, for the vegetarians, and buying some foil trays for the cooked food. Perhaps some chicken sausages (do they still do those fantastic Chicken and Garlic Sausages>) if I can convince someone to bring along a couple of loaves of bread (hint hint).

Of course we're going to need something liquid as well and kids because kids and barbeques just seem to go well together (and that's without having the two occupy the same space).

The details again just in case ya forgot:

When:
5th December, 11:00-14:00
Where:
Outhwaite park, Corner Park Rd, Carlton Gore Rd Grafton
Openstreetmap.org link

We may even go for a beer or two afterwards.... That's if everyone isn't off to go see the Dalai Lama at Vector Arena that day.

Regards,
Nevyn.

Auckland LUG - November Meeting
Submitted by BlakJak on 19 Oct 2009 - 6:43pm Auckland
This from Nevyn:

Hi Everyone,
Well it's finally upon us - the last formal meeting for the year.

Subject:
PXE booting.
PXE booting allows to you boot from a network resource. This can be used to provide a way of installing OSes in a large organisation or to provide a desktop on low end machines.

Who:
Glen Ogilvie

When:
November 2nd, 2009. Monday at 7.

Where:
Open Systems Specialists.
Level 1, 162 Grafton Road. (The Compass Building, corner of Grafton Rd and Khyber Pass, opposite the Southern Cross Healthcare building)
OpenStreetMap - (look at the streets rather than the arrow...)
Please be punctual as someone needs to come down to the door to let you in and late comers can make things a tad awkward.

Other Notes:
There is a chance for this meeting to be a bit more interactive. Feel free to bring your laptops along and have a go at pxe booting for yourself.

Auckland LUG meeting for September - RepRap
Submitted by BlakJak on 25 Aug 2009 - 5:56pm Auckland

(The Compass Building, corner of Grafton Rd and Khyber Pass, opposite the Southern Cross Healthcare building)
Openstreetmap.org link (look at the streets rather than the arrow...)

What: Vik Olliver has kindly offered to do a presentation on the RepRap.

Taken from the website: "RepRap is short for Replicating Rapid-prototyper. It is the practical self-copying 3D printer..."

"Linux in Schools" (Working title) - Meeting in Auckland
Submitted by BlakJak on 28 Jul 2009 - 1:43pm Auckland
Announcing the first "Linux in Schools" (really bad working name) meeting to be held on Wednesday 26th of August at 7pm at:

Dominion
234 Dominion Road
Mt Eden, 1024
Auckland
Google Maps Link or Open Street Map Link.

We should probably come up with an agenda:
1. Brief description of the organisation and projects.
2. Name is needed for such an organisation.
3. Discussion on individual projects.

Editors Note: This effort has become what is now known as POINTS: Promoters of Open Information Technology in Schools.

Auckland LUG Meeting for August - Open Street Map
Submitted by BlakJak on 28 Jul 2009 - 12:37pm Auckland
The Auckland Linux User Group is pleased to announce their August meeting:

Subject: Open Street Map A "google maps"-like project except that all the data is open. It includes, not just the front end but also an API for using that data.
Speaker: Robin Paulson

Where:
RvB Red vs Blue
155 Karangahape Rd
Auckland
Google Maps Link (OpenStreetMaps link coming soon)

Given that Rob has said that the presentation is around 1/2 an hour long, we could probably have a bit of an open session afterwards. Just bear in mind that the venue closes at 9 so we should be wrapped up by then.
