Workshop: Linux Audio & Honeynets

Agenda:

Chairman's Welcome
Introduce guests and match people needing help with expert
7pm - 7:15pm

Beginners Workshop: Linux Audio

Speaker: Nick "Meow" Skarott
7:15pm - 7:45pm

Can't figure out what all those audio devices and nodes are? Having
trouble sorting your inputs from your outputs? Meow takes all the jargon
in and shows that the linux audio stack is just as easy to use as the
one that's found in *shudder* Windows. Everything from setting your
inputs, controlling your outputs, audio engines (OSS/ALSA/PulseAudio),
and even drivers for those really weird audio cards.

General Business
7:45 - 8pm

Coffee Break & Helpdesk
8pm - 8:20pm

People needing help can get together with experts to get answers. Otherwise grab a cuppa and spin yarns :).

Advanced workshop: Honeynets

Speaker: Fahim Abbasi
8:30pm - 9pm

A honeypot is an information security resource whose value lies in it being probed, attacked or compromised. It is setup as bait for hackers, in which hackers are lured, endured and studied. Honeypots reveal fascinating information on hacker tools and tactics along with their skill level and organization.

Honeynets extend the concept of a honeypot to a specialized stealthy network of honeypots designed to achieve further insight of hacker activities within this network

Meeting ends 9pm

Video card broken Message-ID: <386580.63992.qm@web50912.mail.re2.yahoo.com> Hello, Okay, my videocard on my comp has died. It has led a happy life. It died of terminal Windows 7 installing. Beware! I was installing Windows 7 at the time, and upon rebooting.. well.. it never came back. Testing has proven that its the video card. So, Windows 7 can kill video cards. Anyway, heres why Im emailing the list. Has anyone got any crappy PCI or PCIE video card that I can buy for like $10, until I figure out what im going to buy, when im going to buy it etc? a 4 mb card will be fine, as I'll be using it just for work/video watching. Games can wait until the new card... that is, got to get paid first, from work. Hi All!

Do you know any local businesses that do Linux support? We want to add a section for them on the PLUG website for people willing to pay for support and also let local Windows computer support companies know that they can access local Linux support if they need it.?

If you know anyone get them to add their business to the Computers Support category at www.manawatudirectory.co.nz
