Can you help me with a transcoding script? I've bought a Media Player (http://www.mediagater.com/MediaGate-MG-450-HD.html) and I can't play some AVIs and mp4s on it (even though the brief documentation says they're supported). Can you help me write a better transcode script? I want to download a bunch of stuff from Miro (mp4, avi, ogm, flv) and have them just work. My current script works, for some formats, but triples the file size. for a in /home/john/Movies/Miro/*/*$fmt; do avidemux2_cli --nogui --load "$a" --video-codec DVD --audio-codec MP2 --audio-resample 48000 --output-format PS --save $a.mpg done Cheers, John From meow_tuna at orcon.net.nz Thu Jan 1 14:36:34 2009 From: meow_tuna at orcon.net.nz (N J "Meow" Skarott) Date: Thu Jan 1 14:36:52 2009 Subject: [plug] Transcoding for a Media Player In-Reply-To: <1230756285.2906.10.camel@localhost.localdomain> References: <1230756285.2906.10.camel@localhost.localdomain> Message-ID: <495C1E22.4010308@orcon.net.nz> John Flower wrote: > Happy New Year guys, > > > Santa, me, got me a Media Player that plays from HD, USB, wireless Samba > and FTP; movies, music and pictures on my TV. > > Can you help me with a transcoding script? It could mean MPEG-4 Part 2 AS Profile (AKA DivX and XviD - Xvid conforms to the standard alot better than DivX) or MPEG-4 Part 10 (or H.264). I also notice your script isn't specifying a bitrate. Specifying DVD will as you said likely triple the file size because MPEG-2 is much less efficient. ~6-8 megabits per second video for MPEG-2 as opposed to about 1-1.5mbit for MPEG-4 (depending on your variant). As for transcoding, I'd say to look at either transcode, mencoder or ffmpeg. Bit more knarly to use, but gives you more control overall. You could also try GUI based transcoders such as Handbrake or even VLC's ones.
