I am pretty sure that the 8K-I is a real hardware RAID.

On a somewhat related problem... (well IBM xSeries + ServeRAID).

The ServeRAID 8e is definitely a fakeRAID, and can be a pain to install
Linux on an IBM x3550, especially under SLES. It sees two disks and not
the RAID1 set that you have already configured.

If you hit this read section 2.2 in

The guts is "Use boot option "broken_modules=ahci" during installation.
This will prevent the ahci driver from loading, and the adpahci driver
will be able to find the attached drives."

If you don't do this, the ahci module claims all the disk resources and
things go bad very quickly.

Can anyone tell me if the IBM ServeRAID 8K-I works ok with Centos and or
Debian Etch?

Would you consider it true Hardware Raid? or more FakeRAID? I've been
told by
my supplier it is proper hardware raid I tried to find out more info
about the
card but the info was limited. From what I see in the kernel there is
support
for the 8K in the AACRAID driver but not sure if that would also include
the 8K-I
