Were there any additional steps to getting it working at it's current
state? A customized install should be done if there was any extra
configuration to be done just on the basis that a new user to the
laptop should be as trouble free as humanly possible.

Depending of course on whether Acer are at all interested in getting
these machines working properly with Linux rather than making up some
sort of gaff about things not working due to "the limitations of
Linux".
