[nzlug] Server B***s-up SOLVED

I was also going to suggest something like this, although not in quite
such a nice way.

There is especially no way anyone should ever connect a router that has
been connected to a network through some other device directly to the
network, unless they have been told to do so. It should be obvious to
any even slightly tech person that the device in the middle is probably
there for a bloody good reason.

In this case, if the tech was contracted, it makes it even worse, as
they should never have even touched the piece of equipment - and then
blaming the issues on something they know nothing about makes them look
worse and shows little understanding of your network setup. If you
don't know what it is/does, then ask or don't touch it.

Bypassing a firewall by doing what they did is just silly and
dangerous. Even worse would have been if he had pulled the same trick
at somewhere like a bank, or anywhere else that holds a lot of private
customer data.
