The kiwi online banking app Xero[1] accesses bank systems to download
customer transactions/statements into their web application. When we
tried it out we had to fill in a form authorising access to our
account statements. My understanding is that its a web service they
access daily. They now cover most of the major NZ banks, so I'd
imagine they all have something similar. The banks may not be geared
up for a single customer to do the same, but they are doing it ...

Rob :)
