Never mind - I suspect you have a different problem now from the one you
started with. Hopefully you're taking it back? Or trying an install from
the official ubuntu disk?

Interestingly, the DSE display model was set to the correct card. The
guy who installed didn't know there was a choice, so that's how it came
out of *their* box :/

They have a different issue - the basic symptom is that the change
wallpaper dialog is disabled somehow (won't respond to mouse-clicks,
except the "x") - so looking for a cli way to set the display to use
compiz-fusion.

Investigating showed all the 3D acceleration explicitly shut down in
xorg.conf. So I'm guessing someone has secured it. The install-guy says
it wasn't him...

The 3D stuff could be rebuilt OK... but still no clicky the dialoggy.

BTW: DSE seem to have a big fat pipe...

No worries.

Acer responded to the request for a loaner with a request for more info
(but no questions). I'm obviously talking to the wrong people. PC World
have not responded at all.

Oh well...
