A friend and I were heading from Auckland to Ohakune once to go skiing. We
were meeting some friends from Auckland who were driving down separately.
The Cortina couldn't make it up the hills and had conked out. We were both
Vodafone users and couldn't get cellphone signal, but I did have a Telecom
wireless card and a laptop. We were able to get onto IRC and have someone
back in Hamilton ring the hostel for us and let them know :-)
