That's rough - that thing has been known to hose systems. However, the
developers have moved to a more open model and promise that the original
issues have been fixed - honest. Unfortunately, many bugs tend to show
up well after automatix has been used. Thus users seldom make the
connection and they get under-reported.

It is possible that you'll get your mic back after a reinstall.

It's very tempting to put all the steps into a script. But easy to
break, and there is an unfortunate social engineering problem. Better
you see what you're doing.
