[nzlug] Ekiga vs DSL modem?

I've been spending a little time trying to get the Ekiga phone software
working. I'm a little stuck though.

The Basic software works ( Damn you Ubuntu for turning off Microphones by
default ) but the problem I have is getting it to talk to the outside
world.

My home Network is Behind an Xtra D-Link DSL 302G modem which I talk to
via Ethernet and which NATs my computers. When I try and setup Ekiga it
reports that I am behind a "Symmetric NAT" which is a bit of a problem, see:

http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Ekiga_behind_a_NAT_router

The Router doesn't support STUN but I had a go at adding some redirect
rules for ports 5000-5100 and 3478-3479 to my workstation but that doesn't
seem to do the trick.

I was wondering if anyone else was using this sort of Modem/setup and how
they got things going?

I also tried using siproxd on a machine which I forward (via openvpn) an
external IP to. But while that method connects and brings calls up the
actual voip packets seem to get blocked somewhere.
