Putting a man on the moon is easy, but emailing him whilst he's up there
is really tricky. But at least TCP/IP will work to the moon. the RTT for
speed of light to Mars is so long, the TCP/IP protocol's timeouts aren't
long enough to establish a connection :)
Hmmm, maybe if we could put a TCP/IP echo daemon on the moon. We'd need
a solar panel, batteries, small linux box, 802.11 card (better use N, it
has longer range), and a pringles can... Hmm, we may need to exceed FCC
rules on power levels to get a strong enough signal.
I'm just trying to decide if we'd need to use WPA. Would we want an open
access point on the moon? It'd spell the end of days if spamming aliens
found it.
Hmmm, in all seriousness, is anyone aware of any publically routed IP
addresses in orbit?
Hmmm, back to work..
Nick
