Hi Roland;
    You might want to check that there are drivers for all you hardware 
that are 64 bit and that you can get the flash plugins etc.that you will 
want for 64 bit linux. I have been working on a laptop with 64 bit linux 
and the internal modem only has 32 bit drivers:-(.

You can run ubuntu as a live cd, I assume that the 64 bit version can do 
this as well as the 32 bit version.
