Wouldn't the most generic camera format be DV? I'm fairly sure I've used DV

The camera is a SONY HS5. It has a 2GB memory stick, so can record about 1
hour 45 minutes of video at 640x480 / 30fps

It isn't a digital video movie camera....though that is getting to the point
where the shape of the case may be the only difference with respect to the
output.

The files are just IMG<nnnn>.mpg and playable on anything.

I'm looking for software that means I don't have to spend hours messing with
every step in the process. I'd do it for pay, but it long ago stopped being
fun more than occasionally. ;-)
