I think the second generation is fixing the main problems people saw with
the Eee in that the CPU, RAM, "Disk" and display were just a little too
low for many [1] . The problem they had was fixing these ( even with a
years worth of Moores law) pushed the price up a little.

The thing is the 1.5GHz CPU, 1G RAM, 16G Flash, 1024x600 specs are
probably enough for most people so I think the next year or so will see
machines with that sort of spec but priced lower and perhaps with longer
battery life.

The "$NZ 400 laptop" market might actually be quite big.


[1] - I guess a problem many had was that it didn't run Windows.
