There have been licensed DVD players available for Linux for some time
(if you believe what you read [1], since at least 2001). Dell license
LinDVD [2] from InterVideo for their Ubuntu preloads. Fluendo,
through whom you can buy codecs [3] (including Windows Media), are
promising a player soon.
I don't believe there is an end-user option at this point, but it's
not technically correct [4] to say it's impossible.
Reforming the system is a noble goal. CSS is flawed, not least due to
the fact that the system of staggered worldwide releases doesn't make
any sense in an online age.
