I know Auckland is getting worse but... !
In my 25 years in Auckland I never had a significant problem travelling
city bound at 7pm...
The first few LUG's I attended, I travelled from Manurewa.
The problem with making smaller regional LUG's is that the pool of
expertise you have access to is smaller... they may serve a purpose with
regards to getting users in your community talk to eachother.. but I
definately valued getting to know people from different parts of the area,
different walks of life...
If communities want to set up LUGs (LGUGs? GLUGs?) I'm all for it, but I
dare say the Auckland LUG would benefit from say, a car pool arrangement.
Once a month isn't really that hard...
