Alas, Liz is leaving us to move down south : we need someone new to herd
the servers into line and put the web into the websites :-)

Here's the job ad for the interested. Everyone else: please ignore and
consider this post "[OT]" with apologies:
-----

We are looking for a new network/systems administrator/manager to join
our ever-growing team here in beautiful Albany, Auckland.

We need someone who can help manage our (primarily linux-based) internal
network, and more importantly our large and rapidly growing website
hosting infrastructure.

You will get to play with:
* Lots of cool buzz words – add things like “high availability”,
“virtualisation” and “linux clusters” to your resume!
* Tons of servers, all over the place
* One day, when we hire someone new, you can be their boss and make them
fetch you coffee!

Technologies that we use every day (you don't need to know them all, but
you will need to learn):
* Lots of servers, lots of website hits, with lots more on the way
* Programming : with lots of servers, you don't really manage servers,
you write software to manage servers. We have huge piles of custom
system configuration software, primarily written in Perl, Cfengine, and
the odd shell and PHP script. At least being able to output “hello
world” in some of those things would be a great start :-)
* Debian & Ubuntu & Xen virtualisation
* Apache, IPVS load balancing, Heartbeat, DRBD, NFS etc
* MySQL (with replication) database servers
* Lots of Linux desktops and laptops, some windows desktops & laptops,
the odd mac, and all the other weird things people plug into the wall
and expect to work
* Emacs! (ok you don't need emacs, but extra marks if you use it. I will
begrudgingly accept misguided vim users for re-education, and people who
have never heard of either vim or emacs for destruction)
* Whatever other cool stuff you add!
* Documentation! Woohooo! (sorry, but everyone's got to do it)

Ideally you will love tinkering with cool new stuff, building robust
systems that can scale massively, while working for a fun growing
company (I am installing a developer mini-golf facility as soon as we
move to our new office and have space :-) ) – think google without the
silicon-valley salary or perks :-)
