[nzlug] favourite distro

I always thought the consensus on this list was:

Red Hat for Business

Debian derivates for home.

Everything else (Gentoo/Slackware/Mandriva) is for the more esoterically
inclined.

I personally use Ubuntu as my main distro at home (before that Suse,
before that Slackware), because I like its ease of installation, its
eyecandy and its constant, rapid evolution. I use OpenBSD on my server and
I like to experiment with the more esoteric ones (Scientific
Linux/ZenWalk). My better half uses Xandros on her EEEpc and OS X.

(...and with a proper graphic card you can even run pretty cool,
innovative FPSs like Sauerbraten on it.)

Linux on the desktop's evolution over the last two years has certainly
been mindboggling, and Shuttleworth and his merry men (or paid
IT-servants, however you want to characterize them) certainly have to get
a lot of credit for that.

Nevertheless, my prize for most sophistically engineered Linux goes to
DSL, as I find it again and again amazing how much functionality the
developers have crammed in 50 megabytes and how even the lowest specced
machines turn out to be functional with the little marvel.

...just my two cents.

Dirk
