... I vaguely remember seeing the cover at the time but I was somewhat
preoccupied. Reading it now I am struck by the language. This is not a
discussion of copyright and what it means in a digital age... eg.
Quotes from a study without providing a reference - so, uncheckable
source. The study makes claims about MPANZ motion picture losses due to
unlicenced distribution. There is no information about how these figures
were obtained, the figures are accepted without question.
Repeatedly uses the word "piracy" to refer to unlicenced copying -
equating this with stealing ships and murder.
Refers to movies and audio files as "digital content".
Refers to "copyright theft" which is meaningless. Further, there is
nothing in NZ law which equates copyright infringement or unlicenced
distribution with theft (AFAIK: provide reference if I am wrong.)
Sharing unlicensed copies online is asserted as a "sister evil" to
pornography.
Does say that MPANZ represents *US* movie studios, not NZ movie studios.
Does point out alternative methods of discouraging copyright
infringement. (Re. BBC + YouTube etc.)
Yes OK, I've been talking to Stallman again... but still...
