[nzlug] Dual head with text consoles

Hi all,

I have a PC with added-on Compaq ILO (PCI remote management card). The
ILO has its own graphics card (some ATI Mach64) plus there's nVidia
GeForce on PCI-Express bus for X11.

I can set the BIOS to boot up PCIE first in which case I have both text
console and X11 on nVidia and no output at all on ATI/ILO. Or it can
bring up PCI first in which case I have text console on ILO and blank
screen on nVidia during system boot and then X11 appear on nVidia and
everything disappears from ILO. Ie it's no longer possible to login
remotely.

Does anyone have a hint how to make the ATI run in text mode to provide
for remote console login and at the same time nVidia run X windows?
Ideally both cards should start up in text and then have nVidia turn to
X/KDE.

I have found many howtos on configuring X11 to use two cards but that's
not what I want.
