Are you using the Ubuntu's Server Edition?
It does a good job of setting you up with a basic LAMP stack without
much effort at all.
The Server kernel is also tuned for server tasks compared to stock
Ubuntu which is intended for desktops.

Make sure you use the .deb or .tar.gz package directly from webmin.com
as these are most up to date and do the best job of setting themselves
up for your specific system.

Also if you find what you are pretty sure is a Webmin bug post a
question on the Webmin forum or mailing list:
http://www.webmin.com/mailing.html
Jamie (the lead developer) is really on to it especially when it comes
to making sure core functionality operates as expected.
