My parents are getting one to replace their seriously aging Ubuntu desktop. 
From the specs it looks like it is a low-end consumer laptop, I wouldn't get 
one myself, but it should do them just fine. I expect that if you added a 
windows and office license, it would probably be the equivalent of the 
$1000-or-so laptops you can get, but running Linux, I expect that it would 
age a whole lot better.
