[nzlug] Where to start... where to start...

I finally made the jump to Ubuntu three months ago, when I got my dual
screen setup working. It has been a dream come true - I can finally do
something about all those little niggles, instead of having to hope that MS
would eventually fix them. I kept my Windows partition, but haven't used it
once - if I do ever get any more Windows development work, I'll be doing it
on Linux, probably using wxWidgets and python.
For web dev, IEs4linux does me for browser testing, and everything else is
just sweet - running faster, and none of those "wonder what all that
legalese actually says?" moments when you want to install/update things. I
like the Geany editor, which does most things UltraEdit used to do
(including block mode) but you have a lot of choice there. If you haven't
come across it, get the Firebug plugin for Firefox - great for debugging
javascript and html/css issues.
I strongly recommend Ubuntu, they really have "got it" about just making it
work. I installed on a laptop with a vanilla PCMCIA wireless card last week,
and it Just Worked. My inlaws have been running it since Christmas, and they
love it too (and the support calls have dried up!).
Welcome to your new world!
