You think Firefox has any less source code? OpenOffice.org? The Linux
kernel?
With what we now know, this package seems easy (and small) enough. It
appears to do something like scan every file on your disk looking for
signatures of known OSS software. I have numerous lesser-known OSS packages
it didn't find.
It's large because it ships with a JVM and Ruby. (Question: does that mean
that 100% of the partcipants will be found to have the open source software
"Java" and "Ruby" installed?)
Again (only speaking for Windows as the platform), if it shipped with only
what was really needed and then popped up a "You need a JVM, would you like
to download one also?" message, it would gain a little bit more good-will
from the community.
