Well I would have but that there was nothing wrong before! I mean it: I
had clear voice and music recording on the "digital" input if I cranked
the mic boost up.

I'm reproducing the circumstances of the original install in case
something I did triggered the correct settings.

Heh - it's intel with a realtek chip inside... we've talked about it
before. I'll have a look - but last time I just found a whole lot of
people unable to get the mic working.
