Still wrestling with the modem.
The linuxant installer gets an alsa deb package and the hsfmodem source
tarball.
Both install without a hitch, however - the driver announces that there
are no modems - but suggest a reboot. All sound is gone. Further - the
system is no longer bootable.
Reinstall to recover boot. This time I documented the process for a bug
report. Intreguingly, the hsfconfig diagnostics routine fails.
All sent off to linuxant - if they blame ubuntu packages again, I'll
test another distro.
Removing the driver at this stage recovers sound and bootable-ness (?)
except for the microphone. Which, I think, is a wee clue as to what
happened to it in the first place (symptoms are identical).
So - outstanding issues are: Suspend to RAM and Modem.
(What does a usb-serial modem cost?)
There are two tools to try for the rebuild - UCK and Reconstructor.
Their manuals keep saying they are for making live disks - but they also
say they will remaster the alternate CD ISOs... I'll have to see what
happens.
However, it may be more appropriate to produce an oem disk-image for
acer and a post-install CD for users. There just isn't all that much to
do post-install.
Post install CD would only be useful for people without decent internet
access... so would include the working madwifi driver + a script for
one-click install.
Any votes for what else to include? Map the buttons? Codecs? DVD
playback?
