The wifi button on this laptop works well for me using a combination of 
the module 'acer_acpi' and ndiswrapper.

The latest stable release of acer_acpi can be found here : 
http://aceracpi.googlecode.com/files/acer_acpi-0.11.2.tar.bz2
After compiling and adding the module to the kernel I added the 
following line to /etc/modules:

acer_acpi wireless=1
