Ah, what I do is just run the config script (vmware-config.pl?) each 
time I update the kernel. If the kernel changes the script needs to be 
re-run, but not the patch. If the VMWare version changes, the patch 
needs to be applied to the new version, which means running the vmmon 
compile once, applying the patch and then compiling the vmmon again. I 
see what you mean.
