Man, VMware go out of their way to obfuscate...

I had a look through their website (which is choked with
marketing-speak) and concluded that I needed "VMware Workstation" (USD
189). I just want a single user to run a single Windows application on
a single Linux platform, no?

"VMware Server" can "provision a new server in minutes," "simplify IT
testing," and "[realize] the benefits of server virtualization." Didn't
sound like anything I wanted to do.

"VMware Player" is also free-as-in-beer but it needs someone else to
create the VM... aah the penny has just dropped. I have to download
*both* Server and Player. One "creates" the virtual machine and the
other, ah, "plays" it?

Is that it? I'm not sure I understand the implied separation of functions.

Johann
