For virtual desktop machines? Sure. For Windows VMs? Sure. VMWare is
fantastic, and I use it every day.
But for linux servers, Xen runs a whole lot of hosting providers[1]
and in my experience is very reliable in production. Amazon's EC2
service is built on Xen. I'm not sure if Peter from Rimuhosting is on
this list, if so maybe he can comment - rimuhosting runs all their
hosts on Xen. RHEL5 has Xen built in and supported. So they are
providing serious competition and serious performance (*last time I
looked at the benchmarks).
