I went today to the PN branch of DSE, where I had bought my laptop. I 
explained to the Duty Manager that I was becoming frustrated at the 
lack of response to my concerns. He assigned the problem to a young 
staff member who undertook to do what he could.

I have now received a copy of his email to Acer NZ, describing my 
troubles and drawing attention also to 
http://dunedin.linux.net.nz/Linux/DSEAcerLaptops. He (and I think his 
manager) realise that if the problems can be sorted out there might 
be a large market for this bottom-end but very cheap linux machine.
