It could be related. When I was having the problem, my wireless device was 
becoming wlan_rename0. Try deleting the file, it is autogenerated on boot, 
and may do it better this time around.

I also had an issue with openvpn not connecting after suspend in gutsy. I 
fixed it by adding 'openvpn' to the 'STOP_SERVICES'line 
in /etc/defaults/acpi-support.
