Qemu comes into its own because it will let you emulate different kinds
of processor. I can start up a Qemu VM for an ARM CPU, or a 64-bit AMD
if I'm running on a 32-bit Intel etc. - and I can emulate multiple CPUs.
I like it a lot, but it is slow and kvm support is not friendly to my
AMD Turion laptop.

Yes, I run multiple VMs on my laptop.

Usually I use Vmware. This is partly because everyone else at work runs
vmware and we share images, but mostly because it is several times
faster and I mostly do x86 work anyway.

Reconfiguring a Vmware host is possible, but is largely black magic of
the poke-and-hope variety.

BTW, I'm running it now under the current Hardy with a standard 386
kernel.
