Nope, I got that wrong. The video card is blacklisted.
This is because Xv don't play with Compiz in XAA.

If I unblacklist it, I get all the compiz goodness but totem just exits.

I can set video to use X11 instead - but to no avail.

If I set Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" in xorg.conf, then starting compiz
causes a logout. (Hmmm... but I've started compiz now - maybe it'll let
me log in... another thing to try tomorrow).

I'll try Totem-xine if that doesn't work. Or another MMP. The bug lists
claim that the EXA difficulties with i965 have been worked out. So -
more reading.

What is the normal action of Acer's "e" button? Start mail client? I've
got it mapped to start firefox right now.

There dosn't seem much use for the wifi toggle. I figured I'd map it to
toggle the touchpad. Mapping the buttons dosn't seem to be a problem.

However - the nx5000 wifi button goes out of the box and I cannae figure
how it does that.

Cannot find the modem. No list in lspci, but the jack is there. I notice
the removable bottom panel goes over where a modem would fit - maybe it
has been removed. (Note: no bios option to enable a modem.)

That leaves the mic. What would be a definitive test of this? I was just
gonna fire up the installed "sound recorder".

There is no camera - so this doesn't seem to be a voip box anyway. Not
by default. Maybe my camera mike will work.

Other stuff... not tested acpi, but I see the lid button event works.
Boot is lightning and the desktop runs very smoothly. Now.

Comparing with the nx5000 is probably not too bad an idea - the tech is
about the same age (apart from the forms) and the hp was *built* with
linux (SuSE) in mind.
