[nzlug] Raid

It has most probably been said earlier in the discussion, but a separate
backup is much better at recovering from user errors and none-disk
related system problems than RAID is. (e.g. "Oh, Did I just delete
THAT?" or bad memory causing file system corruptions)
As the saying goes, "one copy of anything is nothing when something bad
occurs".
In RAID's case, the only bad thing you are protected against is a hard
drive failure - what about fire, flood, lightening, thieves, finger
trouble...
It makes the 200GB USB drive in the drawer at home very useful.

Subject: [nzlug] Raid
Hiho,
after the discussion about dual booting with raid/fakeraid, may I ask
whether there is any benefit for me as a homeuser to have a raid setup?
I
regularly backup my homefolder and the HD that contains the data
accessed
by all my OSS's (music/movies/phothography).
What benefit would Raid give apart from extra data security (and maybe
speed)?
Dirk
