There are also bios issues to think of. Both 'fake' and 'real' software raid is available. The'fake' is analogous to the Microsoft raid that is now so common, and you'd initially configure the array in bios. For 'real' software raid, you'd need to turn all of that off, and allow linux to perform all of the configuration...
