lag and throughput are different things.
gigabit gives you more throughput, but may not necesarily reduce the lag
unless the lag is caused by not enough bandwith.

i doubt that using X saturates your 100mbit line.

a factor of lag could be ssh encryption, for which you'd need faster
cpus, or turn encryption off.
