[nzlug] SATA PCI cards on linux?

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my disk space. To ensure future compatibility, I
prefer to get a SATA drive.

Problem is that my present mobo only has PATA, so I thought a SATA PCI
card might ease the transition.

Google doesn't easily yield up info on which SATA PCI cards work with
Linux. All I see is a bunch of forum threads where people report
compatibility problems, and others ask questions and get no meaningful
replies.

Does anyone here have any experience getting PCI SATA cards to work?

If so, what brand/model/chipset cards will give me the least pain at the
lowest cost?

And, can you point me to any sites which can help?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Cheers
David
