Im comparing using the two over my home connection to the office, a
6.3/0.8mbps connection piped to work, it is far faster for me to use
VNC, despite the lack of encryption, than it is to simply run an app via
an ssh-tunnelled x connection. It may not be the greatest comparison,
but it is a valid general one.
But yes, a non-ssh remote X session makes sense, and should be faster
than VNC... (I didnt realise this is what you were referring to)
