no. i believe that would violate a "to be maintained as is" rule just as
much or even more so than an upgrade.

as soon as you replace components with versions you built from source,
it's not the originally installed OS anymore.

but this discussion shows that it is just not clear what "to be
maintained as is" is supposed to mean, and in my opinion also supports
that such a rule just doesn't make any sense.
