I'd like to place another vote for the WRT54 and OpenWRT combination  
as a very useful, low power firewall, dns and dhcp (via dnsmasq) device.
About the only thing it can't do is web proxying as it lacks storage,  
but if it is only you then you aren't going to gain anything from that.

You'll get rid of one noisy PC and gain a router and wireless to boot.
