[nzlug] long wire: cat5 or phone?

That information may also be out of date - I don't know if that is still 
true. We had a couple of NICS and Mobos coming back with problems and/or 
phone/modem or broadband connections mysteriously not working when the 
NIC was plugged in to the phone line (or when the ADSL was plugged in 
without a filter... the list goes on).

I now live in a country which doesn't have "direct-pluggable" phone 
lines (in fact, just about every country in Europe needs a different 
adapter, which then adapts to RJ-11)... but the last time I used a dial 
up connection was in Thailand about a year ago, because pretty much 
everywhere in Europe that I've been, I have had WiFi or wired broadband 
available.
