well, there are countries where reading someone elses mail is illegal,
and where you may have a reasonable expecation of it not happening.
in the end it comes down to choice:
run our own domain and server:
+ longterm stability of address
+ unlimited storage (because expandable and needed)
+ no privacy issues
- admin overhead
- cost (for hardware and domain)
find a friend and share their mailserver
+ longterm stability of address (if you get to use your own domain)
+ potentially unlimited storage
+ trust for privacy can be easely established
- no guarantee of service since it's free
- cost for domain
find a hoster with email service for your own domain
+ longterm stability of address
+ reasonable storage
- questionable privacy
- cost
use a free email hoster with domain forwarding.
(most domain providers offer that)
+ longterm stability of address
- lack of privacy
- cost for domain
run your own mailserver with providers domain
+ unlimited storage (because expandable and needed)
+ no privacy issues
- instability of address almost certain unless you never change
providers
- admin overhead
- cost (for hardware)
free email hoster without your own domain
+ free
- stability of address depends on the stability of the company
- lack of privacy
use your providers email
+ free
- instability of address almost certain unless you never change
providers
- lack of privacy
i probably missed a lot of aspects, but it seems pretty clear that from
all the options, using your own providers email service is the worst choice.
