That's wrong, ME is as 32 bit as Win98 is (that is to say, mostly)

This would be quite possible, VMWare is free for this kind of thing and is
probably the easiest way to jump in. With some new virtualisation stuff
getting into the kernel, there probably will be open source equivalents
becoming more popular, too. Or you could play with qemu and the kernel
module, I haven't used it much so can't really comment on it.
