[nzlug] USB HDD enclosures

Hi All,

I've been having some problems with a couple of new USB hard disk
enclosures choking and corrupting data. If I remove the ehci_hcd module
everything works better, but its only 11Mbit/s which isn't really up to
scratch. From what I can find via Google it's due to the controller in
the enclosure falling over when it gets data too quickly - apparently
linux pushes data to the device much more aggressively than windows.

If anyone's interested, Distro is Ubuntu Dapper, USB chipsets are Intel
82801G (mobo) and Initio (enclosure), and the enclosures are Cooler
Master X-Craft.

Does anyone have brand recommendations for enclosures that work well?
Preferably SATA -> USB2.

Alternatively, has anyone got eSATA working under linux? Did you use a
special card or should onboard SATA (Intel ICH7) support it?

Cheers,

Rob :)
