I've done the same thing.

Volume talks. Businesses can buy machines in volume with no OS.

Consumers can't...or sometimes can....when Dell is trying to exert
leverage over MS while negotiating over the price of universal,
no-exceptions consumer preloads.

If you want an OS-less laptop or PC, you don't (usually) buy Dell.

At least Dell offer multiple versions of Windows. Vendors like Acer offer
only Windows Vista and don't tell you that 75% of the devices out there
won't work with it.....including the "Vista Certified" MS Wireless Desktop
1000....(as I found out).

I've only had this Vista-cursed laptop for 3 months and I've aleady had to
reload it from scratch to resolve a problem at that saw Vista's screwed up
registry refuse to let me allocate any USB ports to printers.....and this
laptop has no parallel ports.
