I'll testify to that. I have to click Getmail to see the new emails in
most folders (it will "find" the new email in the inbox by itself, but
not in most other folders).
The funny thing is that Thunderbird does notice new email in what I
assume is any folder, as the PC beeps when it detects new email,
unfortunately it doesn't bold the folder list until I hit "Get mail".
I'm not 100% on this, as sometimes its beeped at me (Thunderbird is the
only thing configured to beep) and yet I'll hit Get mail and I'm sure I
have no new messages.
FYI - Thunderbird 1.5.0.12 and Dovecot IMAP 1.0.0. Thunderbird
configured to check mail in every folder and check mail every 10 minutes.
